SUNDAY PICNIC AT WEE JASPER

Destination : BIlly Grace Reserve 

A BYO Everything picnic run of 70 minutes for a 90 Km drive crossing many bridges. The Entrance Fee for the Reserve will be met by the MG Club. Be aware that there is no fuel available at this remote destination. All public roads are sealed.

Firstly, we gather at the OLD COTTER DAM PUB CAR PARK at 10.45 for a departure at 11.00. Bushfires destroyed the Cotter Pub in 2003. It's immediately on your left after crossing the Cotter River Bridge after you first cross the Murrumbidgee River Bridge.

OUR ROUTE takes us back across the Cotter River Bridge and 250 metres afterward make a left turn into Brindabella Rd. This winding road climbs the hillside before passing by Uriarra Village. Continue to the T Intersection with Uriarra Rd.

Turn right (northwards) onto Uriarra Rd. The road will pass by the Uriarra Picnic Grounds (ignoring Uriarra Crossing). Staying on the same route northwards you will now be on Fairlight Rd which leads to the T intersection with Mountain Creek Rd. Turn Right.

Continue along MOUNTAIN CREEK Rd for half an hour until the T Intersection with Wee Jasper Rd. Turn left there and continue through the Wee Jasper Village. Now turn left again at the T. Continue for approx 4 km and turn left again at the next T.

The signposted entrance to the Billy Grace Reserve will soon appear on your left. Drive down past the office and cabins to the large trees on the grassy lawn area on your right. Toilets, water and shelter are available here.

I suggest you copy the route instructions to print if you are not familiar with the route.

Phone reception here is possibly a problem.

If desired you can return to Canberra via Yass. Travel time home is for perhaps 30 minutes less.
