MG Car Club Canberra

History

The Club (the Canberra MG Club) had its origins in the late 1960s and with a hard core of enthusiasts it ran with some gusto for several years, holding monthly meetings at Larke Hoskins' Showrooms in Mort Street, Braddon as well as many other events. However the pace was too rapid for the hard pressed Canberra MG owners, who always seemed to have something else to do when event time came around and, by 1972, only Committee members were attending meetings.

A quiet farewell was said to the Club until, in late 1975, some interest revived and the present Club was established to fill a need within the MG fraternity for somebody to act mainly as a source of information on MGs in general. A few events were anticipated so that owners would not be starved of an outlet for their need to seek the companionship of other owners. A minimum subscription was levied and a register of MGs maintained. A Committee of three was duly elected at the time and held office in the absence of any serious take-over bids.

It would appear as though the early formula for the Club is working quite well as all events to date have been well patronised and the number of members is constantly increasing. The club is now known as the MG Car Club Canberra.
