Orroral Valley Space Tracking Station Site - View on Google maps
STOP PRESS - DUE TO FORECAST RAIN THE RUN IS POSTPONED UNTIL THE NEW YEAR
Note new date and arrangements for the October Monthly Run.
The Springtime Run is from Tharwa to enjoy a half hour 30 km drive on sealed roads to a picnic together at the Orroral Valley Space Tracking Station Site
Just 28 km south from the restored Tharwa Bridge is a beautiful pristine valley for members to celebrate here our Aussie bush country air in springtime. No fuel is available there. The plan is to bring us together to enjoy a tasty sausage sizzle at a special remote location. The attached map is a good guide to the Tracking Station Site and it fills the gap in GPS navigation when in the valley.
Gather at 11.30 in the layby on the west side of the Bridge. Bring your favourite sausages, bread, any other tasty trimmings and some picnic gear. Seen in the attached photo is a shelter containing four large table settings, two electric BBQs and there's an easy walk to good toilet facilities.
The Naas Rd road leaving from Tharwa is sealed. As usual there are a few potholes but an observant driver can avoid them. Once across the Gudgenby River Bridge the only motoring challenge is Fitzes Hill. It's a longish climb best managed in second gear in any elderly MG, however an MGB does it in 3rd. About 3 kms afterwards turn right into Apollo Rd. Please be prepared to carefully slow down when you approach the one cattle grid at the entry into the National Park. It's an easy 8 km scenic Journey from there to the destination.
Please confirm to me your intention to join the Sunday Run by Saturday 25th October so that next mornlng I may anticipate your arrival at Tharwa.
